Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you're looking for a memorable client gift, coffee for your team, something special for an event, or a custom roast for your business, we’ve got answers to your questions.
Seriously. Our goal was to build the worlds longest FAQ page, just for you.
-
MSTRY helps businesses and organizations create custom coffee experiences.
That can mean a custom-branded coffee for client gifting, a roast for your office or team, coffee for an event, a hospitality program, or something completely unique to your organization.
We help with the coffee, the creative direction, the bag design, and the details that turn it into something people really enjoy.
-
Everyone that loves great coffee.
Seriously.
You don't have to be a coffee company—or even know much about coffee—to work with us.
We work with businesses, teams, restaurants, hospitality groups, event organizers, nonprofits, creators, and organizations looking for a more thoughtful way to use coffee. -
Y’all. All kinds. Some common examples include:
Client and customer gifts
Employee and team gifts
Anniversary or milestone coffee
Holiday gifting
Event coffee and attendee gifts
Restaurant, coffee shop and hospitality programs
Branded office coffee
Conference or activation giveaways
Fundraising or nonprofit projects
Custom coffee for creators, authors, and communities
And sometimes the most interesting projects don't fit neatly into a category.
If you have an idea involving coffee, we'd love to hear it.
-
Our custom coffee projects begin at 25 pounds.
To put that into perspective, 25 pounds of coffee could become approximately:
100 four-ounce bags
(about 7-8 cups of coffee)50 eight-ounce bags
(about 14-16 cups of coffee)
The exact quantity depends on the packaging and format you choose.

If you have a date in mind, tell us as early as possible!
One of the things that surprises many clients is that the coffee usually isn't the part that takes the longest.
The custom packaging is.We can move quickly when it comes to coffee selection, roasting, and reorders. Even if you’re not in the Houston, Tx area. Fully customized printed bags require additional production and shipping time.
Our current eight-ounce custom bags typically take about two and a half to three weeks to reach us after the design is finalized. Four-ounce bags can often move more quickly, usually within a week.
For holidays, anniversaries, conferences, launches, or other date-specific moments, we'll work backward from your deadline and help you determine the right timeline.
-
Not at all.
You don’t even need to like coffee. True story, our very first customer (who’s ordering quarterly from MSTRY) doesn’t even drink the stuff. But his team / clients do.You can come to us knowing exactly what origin, roast level, or flavor profile you're looking for, or you can simply tell us who the coffee is for and what you're trying to create.
We'll help guide you from there.
-
As a matter of fact, you can.
For ongoing orders, we can arrange scheduled fulfillment around an agreed annual, quarterly, or monthly volume. Your total commitment starts at 25 pounds, and individual deliveries can be smaller than that. We roast and deliver in stages, so you're getting fresh batches throughout the timeline. We'll work out batch sizes, delivery dates, and payment terms with you. You get a plan that fits how you actually use the coffee.
GETTING STARTED
-
Of course!
We can accommodate whole bean, ground coffee, or—in many cases—a mix of both for your order.
For instance, you could order 30 bags ground coffee, 20 bags whole for your 50 bag order. If you're gifting coffee to a broad audience, we can also help you think through which option makes the most sense.
-
We work with extremely high-quality coffees sourced from coffee-growing regions around the world and partner with experienced roasters to bring each project to life.
The specific coffee available can change seasonally, which allows us to work with coffees that are fresh and well suited to the project.
-
Oh heck yeah. It’s usually roasted and packaged within 24 to 48 hours.
Freshness is THE name of the game.
Coffee is roasted on-demand, specifically for your project rather than sitting prepackaged on a shelf waiting for a logo. -
Part of your coffee project includes our MSTRY Tasting Experience where we explore several freshly roasted coffees together and help you choose the coffee that best fits your project or need.
You don't need to know how to "taste coffee correctly." We'll walk you through it.
-
That’s the whole idea!
Our goal is to help you land on something unique.
We help you explore different origins, roast levels, blends, and flavor profiles to find something that feels right for your organization and your audience.
Custom Coffee
-
The most-est.
One of the things that makes a MSTRY project different is that we create a fully customized front-and-back bag design at extremely low order quantities.
This isn't simply a stock coffee bag with your logo slapped on it.
The bag itself becomes part of the experience you're creating.
-
Because the coffee is only part of what someone receives.
The bag is the first thing they see. It's what communicates the story, the occasion, the brand, and why the coffee exists in the first place.
We think about the coffee and packaging together so the finished product feels intentional from the moment someone picks it up.
For an anniversary, the bag can commemorate the milestone. For a client gift, it can tell your company's story. For an event, it can extend the experience long after someone has gone home.
The goal isn't just to create branded coffee.
It's to create something that feels like it belongs to the moment.
-
Yes.
We customize both sides of the bag and use that space to tell a much richer story than a simple logo placement allows. Remember, this isn’t just a drag-and-drop experience!
Depending on the project, the design might include:
Your company or event branding
A custom coffee name
Original artwork or visual direction
Anniversary or milestone messaging
A thank-you or personal message
The story behind the coffee
Information about the organization
Coffee origin or tasting information
Brewing recommendations
A QR code
A website, campaign, or call to action
-
Nope.
Bag design is a meaningful part of the journey we go through with our clients.
You can bring us finished artwork and detailed brand guidelines, or you can bring us little more than an idea.
We'll work with you to understand the audience, occasion, brand, and story and help shape those ingredients into a bag that feels like it was created specifically for the moment.
-
For sure.
If you already have an established visual identity, we can work within it.
We can use your logo, colors, photography, typography, artwork, campaign assets, or other brand elements as the foundation for the design.
-
We love that, too.
Some projects benefit from creating a custom coffee name, visual concept, or story that has its own personality while still feeling connected to the parent brand.
We can help explore what makes the most sense for the experience you're trying to create.
-
We sure can.
That's one of the things we're particularly excited to offer.
Our 25-pound starting point means businesses don't need to commit to hundreds or thousands of pounds of coffee just to create something that is genuinely custom.
It gives smaller businesses, one-time events, milestone celebrations, and focused gifting programs the opportunity to create a thoughtful branded experience without an enormous production run.
Bag Design & Packaging
-
Absolutely. This is where our coffee shines.
Custom coffee works especially well as a thank-you, holiday gift, customer-appreciation gift, closing gift, anniversary gift, or unexpected follow-up after doing business together.
If there’s someone you can give a gift to—why not coffee? We've created coffee for businesses that wanted to give customers something useful and memorable rather than another traditional promotional item.
-
Yes!
Holiday gifting is one of the most frequent uses for MSTRY custom coffee.
We can help you develop the coffee, packaging, messaging, and quantities based on your recipient list and budget.
The coffee itself can move relatively quickly. Custom packaging usually requires more lead time, so starting early gives you the most flexibility—especially around the holidays. If timing is tight, we may have to rush order bags, which could incur a rush order fee.
-
Milestones are one of our favorite reasons to create something custom.
We've helped organizations turn anniversaries into commemorative coffee that can be shared with employees, customers, partners, or the community.
-
Yep. We offer two different bag sizes.
An 8oz bag, typically good for about 14 - 16 cups of coffee, and a 4oz bag, right around the 7-8 cup range. Either bag is great for gifting. Many of our projects are specifically designed around individually packaged bags that can be handed to customers, included in gift boxes, distributed at events, or given directly by your team.
GIFTING
-
Yes. The ideas are limitless!
That could mean coffee for the office, a team gift, employee appreciation, onboarding, a leadership gathering, a company event, or a special organizational milestone.
-
Yep. Let’s talk details.
For ongoing office or workplace needs, we can work with you to determine a delivery rhythm that keeps the coffee fresh without requiring you to over-order.
That might mean monthly, quarterly, or another cadence based on how quickly your team uses coffee.
-
Oh heck no.
Our 25-pound starting point makes custom coffee accessible to many small and midsized businesses as well as larger organizations.
You don't need thousands of employees to create something special.
Teams & Workplace
-
Yes.
We can work with hospitality businesses looking for a coffee that better reflects their brand and guest experience.
That might include a house coffee, a custom roast, retail bags, guest gifting, or coffee created for a special event or activation.
-
Yes, we’d love to!
We can work with you to understand the food, atmosphere, audience, and experience you're building and use that context to help select or develop a coffee that fits.
If you’re offering coffee at your restaurant paired with dessert—let’s chat. We want to help make it magical. -
That…is up to you!
If retail coffee is part of what you're envisioning, tell us upfront and we can design the program and packaging with that in mind.
-
That depends on how much coffee you're using.
For recurring bulk whole-bean programs, we can explore weekly, monthly, quarterly, or other delivery rhythms based on your needs.
We'd rather build a cadence around how you actually use coffee than send more than you need and have it sitting on a shelf.
Hospitality & Restaurants
-
Absolutely, and you know what—you should. It’s really freaking cool to have your own brand of coffee at your event. Just ask the Houston Latino Film Festival, or the 232 Conference.
Coffee can work as an attendee gift, speaker gift, sponsor activation, VIP item, merchandise piece, or part of the event experience itself.
-
Yes (and they should be uniquely branded, just our opinion).
The coffee can have its own event-specific name, front-and-back bag design, artwork, story, and messaging rather than simply using your everyday company branding.
That allows the coffee to become an extension of the event itself.
-
If you have a date in mind, tell us as early as possible.
One of the things that surprises many clients is that the coffee usually isn't the part that takes the longest. The custom packaging is.
We can move quickly when it comes to coffee selection, roasting, and reorders. Fully customized printed bags require additional production and shipping time.
Our current eight-ounce custom bags typically take about two and a half to three weeks to reach us after the design is finalized. Four-ounce bags can often move more quickly.
For holidays, anniversaries, conferences, launches, or other date-specific moments, we'll work backward from your deadline and help you determine the right timeline.
Events & Experiences
-
It's a guided tasting designed to help you choose the coffee for your project.
And it’s a boatload of fun. We'll bring several freshly roasted coffees, taste them together, talk through what you're experiencing, and help your group select a favorite.
It's part coffee tasting, part creative process, and part excuse to get really caffeinated.
-
Our standard tasting experience is designed for groups of up to six people. But like, it’s not gonna hurt our feelings if you invite a few more folks.
-
Typically around 45–60 minutes.
-
Definitely not.
We'll explain everything you need to know. There are no wrong answers and no coffee-snob vocabulary test at the end.
The goal is simply to discover what you actually enjoy.
-
There is!
But it’s built into the price of the project.
Since crafting/selecting your particular roast is the name of the game, we want to make sure the experience itself is meaningful and valuable to you and up to 5 other folks. 5 ish folks.
MSTRY Tasting Experience
-
We'll start by learning what you're trying to create.
Usually that means understanding:
Who the coffee is for
How many people you're trying to reach
The occasion or purpose
Your timeline
Your brand or creative idea
Any budget considerations
Whether you already know what kind of coffee you want
From there, we'll recommend the best next step.
-
The biggest variable is usually the packaging—not the coffee.
Coffee selection, roasting, and even many reorders can happen relatively quickly. Fully customized bags take additional time to manufacture and ship.
Our current eight-ounce custom bags generally take about two and a half to three weeks to reach us after artwork is finalized. Our smaller four-ounce format can often be produced more quickly.
If you're working toward a holiday, anniversary, event, or another fixed date, tell us that date at the beginning. We'll help work backward from it and build a realistic production plan.
-
Sometimes.
Because the coffee itself can move quickly, we may have options when timing is tight. Packaging format and customization are usually the bigger constraints.
Tell us what you need, how much you need, and when you need it. We'll be transparent about what's realistic.
-
No.
Some clients create a single coffee for a specific moment. Others reorder the same coffee or evolve their program over time.
We can help with either.
-
There's no single required schedule.
Many clients work with us on a project-by-project basis. You might create coffee for a holiday, anniversary, event, campaign, or customer-appreciation moment and order again when the next need arises.
For businesses with ongoing needs, we can also work together to establish a rhythm that makes sense. Depending on the program, that might be monthly, quarterly, or—in some bulk coffee situations—even weekly.
The important thing is freshness. We'd rather help you order an appropriate amount on a useful cadence than ask you to purchase months and months of coffee at once.
-
Yes, where it makes sense.
We don't force clients into a one-size-fits-all subscription.
Instead, we'll look at how much coffee you're using, how frequently you need it, the packaging involved, and how fresh each delivery should be. Then we can establish a reorder rhythm that makes the process as easy as possible.
-
Absolutely.
Once we've established your coffee and design, reorders can often move much more quickly because much of the upfront creative work is already complete.
Coffee availability can change seasonally, but we'll work with you to preserve the flavor profile and experience you're looking for.
Ordering & Process
-
Yes.
We can ship custom coffee orders anywhere in the United States, whole bean, ground, or both.
Shipping is treated as a pass-through cost. We aren't looking to make money on shipping.
We'll provide an estimated shipping cost during the quoting process, and final carrier charges may vary—typically within roughly 10–20% of the estimate.
-
No.
MSTRY ships your completed coffee order in bulk to you or your organization. From there, you can distribute the individual bags to your customers, employees, event attendees, or gift recipients.
If you're planning a gifting campaign, we'll help you think through quantities, packaging, and timing so the coffee is ready when you need it.
-
Absolutely.
We're based in the Houston area, but we can create and ship custom coffee for organizations anywhere in the United States.
Our in-person tasting experiences may depend on location, but geography doesn't prevent us from creating a custom coffee project together.
-
Yes. Coffee is naturally well suited for shipping.
We coordinate roasting, packaging, and shipment around your project timeline so the coffee arrives in great condition and as fresh as practical.
-
Coffee is best enjoyed fresh.
It doesn't suddenly become unusable on a particular day, but its flavor and aroma gradually decline over time.
Because our coffee is packaged and sealed after roasting, it holds up well for gifting and distribution. Whole bean coffee generally maintains its freshness longer than ground coffee.
For clients who need coffee on an ongoing basis, this is also why we prefer thoughtful reorder cycles over sending many months of inventory at once.
-
Keep it sealed in a cool, dry place away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.
There's no need to refrigerate or freeze the coffee for normal gifting or everyday use.
-
It depends on your audience.
Whole bean coffee generally stays fresh longer and is a great choice for people who already grind coffee at home.
Ground coffee is more convenient and removes the need for the recipient to own a grinder.
For many gifting projects, a mix of whole bean and ground coffee can make sense. We can help you determine the right balance for your audience.
Shipping, Freshness & Storage
-
Pricing depends on the coffee, quantity, packaging, design requirements, and project needs.
Let’s talk specifics.Rather than forcing every project into a generic package, we build the quote around what you're actually trying to create.
The best starting point is to tell us your approximate quantity, occasion, and timeline and we’ll go from there.
-
It is not!
One of the reasons we love coffee as a branded experience is that it can feel highly personal and premium without requiring the budget of many traditional corporate gifts.
As a matter of fact, our coffee offering is significantly cheaper on a per unit basis than most corporate or client gifts. We'll help you understand the options and find an approach that makes sense for the project.
-
Once we start getting up in the hundreds of pounds of coffee, we can offer reduced pricing.
-
More than just great coffee!
Every custom MSTRY Coffee project includes a guided tasting experience for up to 6 people-ish, a custom-selected roast, 25 pounds of freshly roasted specialty coffee, fully custom branded packaging, and delivery within the Houston area. From the first sip to the final bag, we take care of the details so you can focus on sharing something special.

What if I have A Question
that isn't listed here?
Dang. We failed in our desire to be through.
Guess that's probably a good reason…to talk to us.
